Manuscript:
Mr. Justice Wargrave had done it all.
He faked his death then killed everyone on the island by using their gulit as the weapon and then he killed himself
The climax of the story is when Judge Wargrave told everyone that he was the murder.

Nik-
Most people think that the climax is when the reader finds out that Judge Wargrave is the murderer. However, if you think about it, that is when all the answers get resolved and the reader can tie up all the loose ends. That would then be the resolution - the solution to the mystery.

Think about when the mood or tone of the story really takes a turn. That would be the climax! When does the key character get 'killed'? How does the story change after that? Once Judge Wargrave is 'shot', the others have no one they consider to be their leader. Up until now, Judge Wargrave does all the thinking and provides the 'logic' to solving the mystery. He, of course, knows all along that he is the killer, but he also knows that no one else thinks that. Therefore, faking his death is essential to everything else working out. That is when the story truly changes. The following events become part of the falling action.

Sentence #2 about Vera Claythorne

Response:

Justicte Wargrave:
Justice Wargrave is a retired jugde who is used to taking control. He also is used to being accused guilty of murder of Edward Seton of June 10th, 1930.
Vera Claythorne:
Vera Claythorne, as stated in the beginning of the b, travels third-class, which makes her sound poorer than some people.
For her previous job, she was a gym teacher at a third-class and she is going for secratary and she killed Cyrl.
U.N. Owen:
WE don't know this person very much, but we are pretty that he is the main reason that the ten people are on the island.
Owen is the suspected owner of the island.
Phillip Lombard:
He is the youngest person on the island. He lives in the fast lane and killed 21 tribal people.
Dr. Armstrong:
He is a doctor. He killed a girl named Louisa Mary Clees.

Nik-
I think Anthony Marston is the youngest one on the island, but you're right about Philip Lombard. He is responsible for the deaths of the 21 natives.

Question#2

Assignment #2 Due October 22
  • Put a line above Assignment #1; assignment #2 will go above assignment #1.
  • Read chapter two.
  • Choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
  • With your small group, find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Each member of your group must write on his or her WIKI page the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • Then, in a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
  • Read chapter three for Monday, October 25.

Response: Mr.Blore says he doesnt like his job that he is going to be doing. "Never thought I'd be doin this sort of job. Good thing, perhaps, that one can't see the future."(pg 36) this one makes me wonder if he got the job that he makes sure that everything goes to the poem plan.

Response:"He (Phillip Lombard) thought to himself: 'He'll ask me now if I was old enough to be in the War. These old boys always do.' But General Macarthur did not mention the War." (pg 22) - - This makes me wonder if General MaCarthur already knows that Lombard wasn't in the war. Maybe he's been aware of Lombard's past?

Response: "There was something sinister about it."(Pg. 22) This could foreshadow something really bad happening at the house or that happened in the house before. An en event that could be bad that happened before that the former owner of the house, the American millionare, could have been killed by mister Owen. The event that could happen there might be the killing of all the guests.

Response: "'There's a wasp crawling up your arm. No - keep quite still.' He made a convincing pounce. 'There. It's gone...'" (pg 20) When Phillip Lombard got the wasp off of Vera's Claythrone's arm, I made a connection between that and the Indian poem on page 31. It says, "Six little Indian boys playing with a hive; A bumblebee stung one and then there were five..." This also makes me suspicous about the poem in general - there are ten guests and ten Indians. Maybe this poem explains how each guest is killed.

Great connection between the bee/wasp and the poem. May be a foreshadowing of what's to come.....

Question#1
  • how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?

  • how might the title be a clue to the story?

1. A mystery novel has a lot of supense and thrilling action that keeps the reader reading. They always have this unusual feeing that wont calm down until you read the entire book. A narrative book usually is boring and tell a story about people that is usually tells about howthey feel insead of you feeling it yourself.
2.It might tell what happens to everyone in the story. I think they all die.

Nik-
While you think that narrative stories are dull, if they are well-written, they interest the reader. While the suspense and excitement of a mystery keeps readers on the edge, don't discount the value of narratives!
